On June 8, 2020, Breaking BEARriers hosted our first of many upcoming speaker series events, where we invite different speakers to talk about their experiences. Our first speaker, XiLuo He, is a Dublin High School 2020 graduate, member of the Gael Force Robotics, and was admitted into Stanford University through early decision.
XiLuo He shared his experience, along with tips and important knowledge for succeeding throughout high school and applying for colleges. During the interview, we asked XiLuo questions gathered from the invitation form, along with any further questions during the meeting.
On June 20, 2020, Breaking BEARriers hosted our second speaker series event, interviewing Jessica Yuan, who recently completed her first year of Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, and has many experiences to share with everyone.
Jessica Yuan explained the transition into college, key points for applications, time management, how to find your passion, and her overall experience through high school and during her first year of university.
On June 27, 2020, Breaking BEARriers hosted our third speaker series event, inviting six different speakers to discuss how non-academic skills lead to success. Each speaker discussed different topics, including teamwork, growth mindset, passion and character, mentorship and self-discipline, presenting your best self, and keeping momentum.
On July 11, 2020, Breaking BEARriers hosted our fourth speaker series event, inviting five doctors to explain the current COVID-19 situation, along with what they do. Dr. Devarakonda (Critical Care Pulmonologist), Dr. Parekh (Cardiologist), Dr. Tiwari (Medicine Specialist), Dr. Michelle Nguyen (Medicine Specialist), and Dr. Tony Nguyen (Vascular Surgeon) explained their own professions and answered questions from the audience. We would like to thank them all for speaking at the event so we could be informed about how to flatten the curve.
