Summer Shi
11th, Dublin High School

Hi! My name is Summer Shi and I am a rising junior at DHS. I’m super excited to be running for Co-president/Vice-president for the 22-23 term. It’s my fourth year in the Breaking BEARriers club, and I have contributed hundreds of my hours through volunteering and coordinating different projects. Since founding the club in 2019, I have led and participated in various projects, from creating face shields during COVID-19 to taking significant roles in the Mural project, African Library project, Tutoring project, DI Mentoring project, the Bike Assembly project, etc. This past year, I had the honor of being Secretary, where I managed club logistics (ex. meeting minutes) and founded the mentoring program. If elected as either Co-president or Vice-president, I will strive to make the club a more tight-knit community with more overall collaboration and engagement, utilizing the skills I have garnered in the past few years. So, if you want a candidate you can trust, remember to vote for Summer.

Jeffrey Gao
11th, Lynbrook High School

Hi! My name is Jeffrey. You may know me as the project leader for the Bicycle Assembly event this past June, but for those who don’t, I’m a rising junior at Lynbrook High School in the South Bay. I’ve been apart of Breaking BEARriers for about a year now, and I’ve enjoyed volunteering at the events that BB puts on, from Fertile Groundworks to COVID test Assembly. Outside of the club, I’m involved in student gov at Lynbrook. I served as 2024 Class Secretary last year, and am currently a member of ASB Social, a committee in charge of planning big school events like dances and festivals.

As a member of the club board, I will push for 2 things: expansion and the streamlining of the event planning process. As one of the only members in the club that is not from the Tri-Valley, I can help expand the club beyond the area and increase both the scope and magnitude of our events. Additionally, optimizing the project planning process will increase efficiency and communication within our club.

I’m the best candidate for VP/Secretary because I have both the skills and interest to succeed in these roles! I’m pretty active as a member of BB and a few notable events that I’ve participated in over the last year include Fertile Groundworks and COVID test kit assembly. Also, I’ve had experience in these sorts of leadership positions, as the current treasurer of a school club and the project manager of several engineering teams in the past. The skills that I’ve developed doing these will be really helpful in ensuring that both the people that the club serves and its members are happy and satisfied!

tl;dr

Jason Wu
11th, Dublin High School

Hi, I’m Jason and I am running for the VP and Treasurer position. BB has served an important role in my volunteering experience and I would love to play a bigger role in its work for the upcoming year. As a passionate member, I’ve attended almost every event. This year, as seasonal projects director and coordinator for both of BB’s winter projects, I was able to enrich my knowledge about how the club works and just how much work goes into ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Outside of BB, I’ve participated in many service events, where I further enhanced my leadership and teamwork skills. I would serve either role well as I am committed, friendly, and always looking for ways to improve. Through various activities such as swimming and band, I have developed important characteristics that have allowed me to become an organized and confident leader. Both positions hold large responsibilities, but I am willing to dedicate my time and energy towards improving YOUR time as a BB member!

As one of the founders of the Breaking BEARriers Club, I believe that I have the experience it takes to be a successful member of the club board. I have repeatedly demonstrated my responsibility and dedication to the Breaking BEARriers by verbally participating in near-all club meetings, publishing a monthly club newsletter, and being active in club activities. I have led several successful projects, such as the Fertile Groundworks mural project, the Book Drive project, and the Summer Classes tutoring program (to name a few). I would be an effective Publicity Officer, not only because of my previous experience in the position, but also due to my continued dedication to this club. I would also be an excellent Secretary because of my organizational skills and workmanship, and my ability to attend nearly every meeting allows me to take efficient meeting minutes.

Ryanne Ma
11th, Dublin High School

Hi wonderful Breaking BEARriers members! My name is Ryanne Ma and I am running to be YOUR club secretary for the 2022 to 2023 year. I am an incoming junior this August and was one of the founders since 2019, being involved in the club as a board member, running events, and helping organize new projects. Just a couple of the projects that I have been a part of were the African Library Project, the Bake Sale Fundraiser, various clothing, book, battery, and school supplies drives, fertile groundworks farm and painting events, and tutoring project. I am very passionate about helping our community and making a world a better place for the next generation. I will be committed to dedicate my time and effort with this club.
I started the club alongside my fellow founders Angelina, Anthony, Chloe, Kevin, and Summer back when we were just eighth graders to spread our love for Destination Imagination, but since then, I have helped the club grow to be so much more than that and help so many other people in our community. In the last couple years, I have gained experience managing internal relations during the leadership council phase of the club, as well as a creative director this past year. These positions allowed me to gain experience in managing the club internally, such as writing meeting minutes and communicating between members, as well as gain insight into how to create and run projects. There is no one in the club more qualified than me. Vote Ryanne Ma for Secretary!

I would be an ideal treasurer due to my experience with organization and leadership skills. I have managed donations and funded projects as the president of the VR1 Foundation, which sends school supplies to underdeveloped countries. As the manager of Tri Valley Music Circle, I regularly communicate with teachers and students, and have arranged and scheduled live performances for over 100 Indian Carnatic musicians. All of this has made me proficient at not only cataloging funds, but also communicating with others in leadership positions. As treasurer, I would ensure that our funds are managed smoothly and use organizational software like google sheets to ensure the transparency of our transactions. Being in this club gives me the opportunity to make new connections with people, give back to the community, and make a difference and I’d love to be a part of the leadership team that helps us make an impact on the community.

Hi everyone, my name is Jiabei Wang, and I am a rising junior at Amador Valley High School. Over the course of my past two years in this club, I have been involved in several projects such as the tutoring program and the COVID kits assembling. This year, I am running for publicity officer, I have had a lot of experience with advertising and also love reaching out to other people and organizations to look for possible collaborations. Moreover, my experience with managing the club’s social media accounts allows our projects to gain more attention, and participation from others. This is also a great way to expand Breaking BEARriers beyond our current members. Additionally, by promoting the club more, it will also help us to improve everyone’s role within the club, and make the experience more enjoyable for all. Thank you for your time and consideration, I will do my best to make this club as interesting and exciting as possible.
